The dot SE country-code domain name extension was set up in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration procedure was very restrictive, so a very limited number of domain names were obtained. Persons were permitted to get solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was compulsory, i.e. merely Swedish persons, business entities and organizations were able to obtain a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized considerably and, accordingly, the number of dot SE domains has been mounting each year.

At this time, anybody can secure a dot SE name, which gives you the opportunity to contact the Swedish net community even if you do not have a local presence.
